After a winter that seemed eternal, summer is finally here and that means it’s time for cottages, barbeques, and golf – lots and lots of golf! After a two-year hiatus (thanks COVID) the Ad Club is elated to host Golf Day on July 21st. I have a personal soft spot for Golf Day as this was the first Ad Club committee I joined. It was a great introduction to this amazing institution, running a large event, selling sponsorships and, most importantly, making sure everyone has a great time. A few years later I took over as chair of the event and hold the proud distinction as the worst golfer to ever run Golf Day! We survived a disastrous attempt to move the event to Niagara, brought stand-up comedians to the dinner and a few golfers who decided to treat the golf carts as bumper cars…an epic misstep that resulted in $6k of damage. We also saw the day grow to become the media industry’s largest golf tournament and a must- attend event for everyone from the advanced golfer to the never-picked-up-a-club newbie. Through it all, I’ve developed both wonderful friendships and cherished memories.
To add some extra excitement to Golf Day we’ve moved the event to a brand new location, Glen Abbey in Oakville, home of the Canadian Open and a course designed by the Golden Bear, Jack Nicklaus. It’s obvious that a lot of you missed Golf Day because the event is completely sold out. If you were lucky enough to snag a foursome (or an invitation) we can’t wait to see you there. If not, keep an eye out for our August Summer Party which will be another well-deserved and much-awaited way for all of us to get back together.
