Over the past few weeks, AdClub has been collaborating with fourth year students from Humber College’s Bachelor of Creative Advertising (BoCA) program to help them create a virtual portfolio show. BoCA fourth year students typically put on a one-night portfolio show event and professionals from across the industry to attend as a way to launch the students into their full time advertising careers. But COVID has prevented the class of 2021 from taking this traditional route.
A small committee of students came together in the face of these newfound obstacles to create a way for their students to build connections and find work. The committee took over adinterns.com, a site first created by BoCA’s class of 2020, to show student work and profiles. The site hosts all 45 students’ portfolios, and invites users to connect with students on LinkedIn and book meetings with them through Calendly to network and connect about internship opportunities.
The AdClub was essential in helping students reach a larger audience by putting on a series of “Meet the Interns” networking events over zoom, the most recent of which was this past Friday, November 13. Students and industry professionals rotated through breakout rooms in a “speed-dating” networking format and connected with professionals working in accounts, creative, strategy, and client-side roles. Our hope is that through these events and promotion of the adinterns.com website, these talented students will be able to successfully. launch their advertising careers.
We encourage you to visit their site, browse student work, and book meetings with students you’re interested in working with. This talented, resilient group of students are ready to make their way into our exciting industry, and we’re ready to welcome them with open arms.
